The connections between Ireland and Boston are extensive and deep.  Since 1996, Tommy and Louise McCarthy have been warmly welcoming traditional Irish musicians to  “the best place to play in America” as Sharon Shannon calls it.  The Burren pub in Somerville Massachusetts is named after the iconic landscape of Tommy’s late father and piper, Tommy McCarthy Senior.  In recent years, a partnership with WGBH Radio in Boston has produced, recorded, and broadcast a very special concert series: The Burren Backroom Series.   The magic of so many nights of great traditional and contemporary music played for enthusiastic, attentive audiences, gathered in the Backroom will be celebrated with the release of a CD, Live from the Burren Backroom, Volume 1.The list of participants in the live series is a who’s who of the music scene on both sides of the Atlantic.  Sharon Shannon, Teada, Dervish, Lunasa, Andy Irvine, Frankie Gavin’s De Dannan, Archie Fisher,  Carlos Nunez, Sliabh Notes, Martin Hayes, Robbie O’Connell, Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh and Mick O’Brien, The Battlefield Band, Sean Tyrell, and many, many others.

This special concert will celebrate the power of live traditional music in strengthening bonds between Ireland and America and should be a night of music and dance.  Not to be missed!
