Legends of the Irish music scene to perform at Stamford Arts Centre

Patrick Street will be at Stamford Arts Centre.

Veterans of Planxty, the Bothy Band, De Dannan and more, Patrick Street represents the distillation of a crucial new strain that emerged in traditional Irish music some twenty-five years ago.
Kevin Burke, Andy Irvine, Arty McGlynn and John Carty – collectively known as Patrick Street – are known throughout the Irish music world as four of its most brilliant players.
On a repertoire steeped in traditional music, the band’s tightly executed arrangements and unparalleled musicianship know no equal.
Beginning as a one-time tour of four recognized masters, eight albums later this “supergroup” has legendary status.
See them on Friday (July 18) at Stamford Arts Centre, 8pm. Tickets are £16 (£15 concessions).

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT ABOUT ANDY IRIVINE AND DONAL LUNNY:

Andy Irvine [vocals, bouzouki, mandolin & harmonica] is according to the Boston Globe one of Ireland’s most creative talents. His past bands include Planxty, Patrick Street and the multi-national Mosaik.

Donal Lunny [bouzouki & guitar] is said by the Irish Independent to be to traditional Irish music what Elvis Presley was to rock ‘n’ roll or Quincy Jones was to soul. He co-founded 3 of Ireland’s most influential groups, Planxty, the Bothy Band and Moving Hearts and he has recorded and/or produced music with Van Morrison, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earl, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, Mark Knopfler, Rod Stewart, Bono & Sinead O’Connor.
